Chitosan is a fibre complex which acts by literally soaking up fats and prevents it from entering the stomach. Rather like a sponge it is said to be capable of binding over six times its own weight of fats and oils and may effectively be used in helping to lose weight safely if used in association with diet and exercise. It is also found that it may reduce the incidence of thickening of the arteries.
Derived from shellfish, chitosan is completely indigestible and in essence is similar to fibre. The result is that you absorb less fat and therefore fewer calories, helping you to lose weight. It is suggested that chitosan should be taken for a minimum of 12 weeks for maximum effectiveness.
